[RL] the joke that is called our legal system…

Note: Just for reference, those of you who do not know, I am a legal assistant so this type of thing draws my attention.

This morning I woke to this article regarding a judge ruling that a bin Laden tape could be played to the Padilla jury. The problem is that defense for Padilla says that there’s no evidence he even *saw* the tape. Yet the judge ruled that the jury could view it and make a decision about Padilla’s life based on that viewing.

The jury was “warned” that the tape had nothing to do with Septemeber 11th, but that day is emotionally charged and linked to bin Laden. A tape of that man clearly sends out a signal, intentional or not. There is no proof that Padilla viewed it. The prosecutors office admits that freely, they only claim the other two defendants have seen the tape.

The US legal system should not be used as revenge. The US is sinking to the level of that of a bully on the playground. The enemy combatant status and this ruling are step one and two of getting down to that level.

It only hurts our country in the end if we change our rules so much that we come to accept this obvious violation of our justice system. Wanting to put a terrorist behind bars is admirable but it should fail if the best case that the prosecutors have is that this video was viewed by co-defendants.

Do we really want to become so jaded over 9/11 that we change our rules of engagement? That we change what is supposed to be the fundamental values of our country? I’m not saying that Padilla shouldn’t be punished for what he *did* do.

In the coming months we can look forward to reports of the defense asking for a mistrial, they may not receive it from this court. Any tape of bin Laden is going to be emotional for a jury of American people and yes influencing the jury with something like this is *wrong*. Hopefully a higher court will point out the mistake and grant the mistrial and force our legal system back on track. Retrying Padilla and retrying him using the legal system the way that it is meant to be used.

Introducing Latte…

chel and latte

This week, I’ve had multiple changes happening in Second Life. I have a new temporary home on Los Arboles. And I have a new kitten! Latte was born on May 29, 2007 at 5:49 SLT. Latte is Siamese and likes me to carry her around as you can see above. She meows hello to everyone she meets and is very friendly. The rumors are true, Latte *is* named after Latte Days and Porter Nights.

Very soon I will have a new home on Edloe Island. Yes, I’m scared of Crap. Yes, I love him too. I’m confident that he’ll make an excellent island owner. And yes he’s threatened me with bodily harm if I don’t live on the island. So I’ll have a new home once he’s up and running. Across from Nowhereville and Woodbridge and diagonally across from Los Arboles.

On Saturday evening, last I was interviewed by Chill Moskung along with Matthew and Christopher Penn. What does the birdie think of Virtual Hot Wings and a new album? Find out here!

Events! Matthew will be playing tomorrow at Raglan Shire Tree Stage in SL. If you somehow, someway, do not know who Matthew equals while reading this blog, then you should immediately go to or visit Virtual Hot Wings!

Tomorrow night Bucket Beach will have their Friday event! Sports Bash at 6 PM SLT @ Beyond the Pail bar / casino. IM Madison Carnot or me for a teleport.

The rest of the weekend I’m likely to be catching up with people that I’ve been missing lately.  If you’d like to hang out, just IM me!

Call chelpixie from your phone!

Woot!  Go to and check out show #111!  There’s some sad news waiting but some really cool ventures on the forefront of The Goddess and Banana business partnership.  You don’t want to miss it!

Real life and Second Life…

Just a little update before I attempt to remind myself to blog daily….new habits are a pain in the tush until they are habits. 😉

  • On Going Broke, I left a voicemail for Daph and Tam this week and Daph dead panned the answer to my question, Does that boot make Tam’s ass look fat? Apparently I also made the comment most likely to get me locked up! What did I say? Well go listen and find out!
  • A brand spankin’ new episode of GBAffair is out. The Goddess and Banana are back, baby, in #111 and provide quite the update themselves.
  • Daphne and Tamara debuted on Laurence Simon’s 100 Word Stories!
  • BucketJen and BucketCorey have shipped out Episode 50, titled Neon Green Butt Station and as always there is an interesting story behind the title!
  • Christopher Penn blew me away by sharing what exactly he feeds his engine with. For your own good, read and listen. 🙂

My second life recently has been quiet as I’ve dealt with some things of varying importance. But tonight I’m heading to Crayon to listen to Moshang Zhao. I’m carting new hair from ETD which is a switch from my usual Gentle updo that has been a staple. Speaking of which, here is my professional photo that I had done by Apple May Photography!

If you want a portrait done, go IM Apple May in world!

As far as a real life update, I’m back on assignment at the temp place and trying to slog through some stuff for Teleflora. While I’m having all kinds of excellent fun managing their database overload from Mother’s Day, I’ve been cut off from Twitter! Definitely experiencing the withdrawal.

My grama, as most of you know is fighting cancer, finished her first round of chemo treatments with no change and is started her second round last week. Your continued good thoughts and donations to Relay for Life are appreciated more than you know. And hugs from friends? Priceless.
