[SL] L$32,069,017!

The’s the number. For the year 2007, Second Life’s Relay for Life raised the rough equivalent of US$130,000. Each donation, each penny, made it happen and takes the research one step closer.

While Relayers made their rounds on the track, some excellent music was played, survivors were honored and hopes were offered. Some musicians remarkably offered to match if donations reached a certain number while they played. One friend, asked for donations to reach L$150,000 on one kiosk and he would lay down L$100,000 on top of it. A few seconds later and it was well past the $L150K mark. It was a remarkable moment.

Later that evening as I took the track while the last band played, I was drowsy and worn out, I received a Skype call from Ed Roberts who made me laugh and put up with my bad sense or humor for a few “miles”. IMs were crazy to manage I found, but all of the people who kept me talking that night, thank you. Beautiful effort was made on the team sites to make them entertaining to bounce through, aye, because I pogo’ed the entire track. I won’t mention specific sims here, that’s already been done, but excellent job builders and thanks for the remarkable views.

By the end of the walk I was wide awake again, so I hung out the Spin Martin/Eric Rice for a while and let me tell ya, that guy has lots of strange vehicles in Second Life. Even smacked me into a wall a time or two, much I’m sure, to his amusement. Part of what’s so great about working with Spin on any project is that he gives you something and then believes that you’ll handle it. If you have a problem, he’ll come to your rescue. He will keep you going when you get tired. In complete awe how that man never seems tired. Managing the stages with him and with Fleep was great fun and laughter. Two great people, steady fun, commitment to getting things done and making things flow with ease. Thanks you two for making it so much fun.

The next day was pretty effortless, some morning bands, Relayers still racing. DrFran was still on the track and pushing herself to more laps. She did a remarkable job pushing herself to stay on the track and compete for the most laps.

And when the time came, the closing ceremonies began and we listened to the tallys, we applauded each others efforts and celebrated the excellent job well done by everyone. Once the fireworks started, everyone was very ready to celebrate! Parties erupted and fireworks followed. It was a beautiful celebration.

To those who made donations on the real life donations page, Christopher Penn, Becky McCray and geORge Brett, in memory of your loved ones, thank you. If you’d like to donate, the page is still up and accepting donations, http://todayisave.com/alife or http://www.helpingthecause.com. Thanks to Chris Penn and C.C. Chapman for donating these urls for easy connecting.

And a special thank you to the Buckets, Corey Akula donated 10% of his DJing tips from Bucket parties to Relay!

If you took one moment to help during this year’s RFL at my request, you know who you are, thank you. It means a lot me that you have donated your time and your effort. I look forward to working with you again and eagerly anticipate the 2008 Relay for Life.

[SL] Pajama Bucket Party and Nowhereville Concert series

Last night I attended the Bucket Pajama party!  There’s a party every Friday night at Nowhereville.  Just IM Madison Carnot for a limo to the party or you can always IM me and I’ll be happy to teleport you.

Today Nowhereville Concert series continues with redzone.   Trippy electronica sounds are coming from my speakers as I write this and I’m looking forward to hearing redzone life this afternoon at 1 PM SLT.  You won’t want to miss this event! Click here to teleport!

Real life and Second Life…

Just a little update before I attempt to remind myself to blog daily….new habits are a pain in the tush until they are habits. 😉

  • On Going Broke, I left a voicemail for Daph and Tam this week and Daph dead panned the answer to my question, Does that boot make Tam’s ass look fat? Apparently I also made the comment most likely to get me locked up! What did I say? Well go listen and find out!
  • A brand spankin’ new episode of GBAffair is out. The Goddess and Banana are back, baby, in #111 and provide quite the update themselves.
  • Daphne and Tamara debuted on Laurence Simon’s 100 Word Stories!
  • BucketJen and BucketCorey have shipped out Episode 50, titled Neon Green Butt Station and as always there is an interesting story behind the title!
  • Christopher Penn blew me away by sharing what exactly he feeds his engine with. For your own good, read and listen. 🙂

My second life recently has been quiet as I’ve dealt with some things of varying importance. But tonight I’m heading to Crayon to listen to Moshang Zhao. I’m carting new hair from ETD which is a switch from my usual Gentle updo that has been a staple. Speaking of which, here is my professional photo that I had done by Apple May Photography!

If you want a portrait done, go IM Apple May in world!

As far as a real life update, I’m back on assignment at the temp place and trying to slog through some stuff for Teleflora. While I’m having all kinds of excellent fun managing their database overload from Mother’s Day, I’ve been cut off from Twitter! Definitely experiencing the withdrawal.

My grama, as most of you know is fighting cancer, finished her first round of chemo treatments with no change and is started her second round last week. Your continued good thoughts and donations to Relay for Life are appreciated more than you know. And hugs from friends? Priceless.

recent happenings…

So in recent weeks, writing here has just seemed to be overwhelming. Here are a few recent events…besides the one I just posted. 😉

  • The Dixie Rebels auction was a great success due to the efforts of Seaway, Mystic, Marissa and Lachlan. The auction helped to generate 200,000L in donations! Tamara Kirshner auctioned of a date with herself, that date alone earned a donation of 61000L! Thank you so much Tam for joining us for the cause!!!! I’m so proud of you! (And hopefully it didn’t make Crap too jealous, he still loves you, you know?)
  • I mentioned our housewarming party! We moved onto Quiet Island and invited a few friends over for a little get together at the beach! It was a lovely time, especially those super duper floatable rafts that my friends Phryne and Dom tossed out! You can see Rich enjoying himself on one, I think we relaxed him enough for his concert!
  • The Nowhereville concert series kicked off with Rich Desoto playing his awesome tunes. Nowhereville Consert series will also be recorded and podcast for your later enjoyment! Something I’m thrilled to hear! Stay tuned for the next concert, but in the meantime, head on over to the Bucket “Genric” party on Friday night!
  • On Monday is the event I’ve been waiting for and waiting for, Bananadu happens the 23rd from 6 to 8 PM SLT at Los Arboles! Skating and disco and music and fun with friends? What more could a girl want?

And don’t forget to love your podcasters! Check out BUCKETpodcast, GBAffair, Going Broke, 100 Word Stories, That Tickles, and High Orbit!

many thanks…

This is a very important entry for me to write and it’s taken time to get it just right, to say what I want and need to say to those involved in this effort. My grandmother is currently fighting against lung and pancreatic cancer. Relay for Life provided me with an opportunity to do something good and not feel so helpless while she fights for her life. It’s thanks to amazing effort that the fundraiser with Matthew Ebel in dedication to my grandmother was such a success, the generosity of the donations and the words touched my heart in a way that is profound and will stay with me for the rest of my life.

First of all, thank you Matthew for your music, your words, your encouragement to donate, and for providing your time, your effort and your voice for Second Life Relay for Life. I am honored.

A heartfelt thanks to my friend Crap Marnier for his role in the creation of the stage and for helping me with all the tasks barked out to him before the event. Couldn’t have done that without you and wouldn’t want to either.

Thank you Madison and Corey (Jen and Corey in RL) for the time, the stream, and the hosting of this event. The beautiful decorations were provided by my teammates, Mystic and Seaway, to turn the amazing outdoor space into the elegant surroundings which we danced the night away. Thank you so much, girls.

A very special thanks to an anonymous helper that made the evening run more smoothly. Your efforts are appreciated more than you know.

My grandmother and my family have asked me to pass along our heartfelt gratitude to everyone that participated and donated during this event. It cannot be said enough! Every single donation helps, it helps raise awareness, it helps in the fight against cancer and goes towards finding a cure. One day we’ll find a cure…..one day.

If you’d like to make a donation you can contact me, I can give you a pledge card or you can simply go to this website.

Radar asked me the other day, is Second Life a game? I can honestly say that the connections that I’ve made and the friendships that I’ve formed are stronger because we share a second life in the midst of our first together. I am very lucky to know that there are such wonderful people who care about me and as a result come together for something so very important.
